Zijn wij cyborgs?

In de jaren 80 publiceerde Donna Haraway ‘A Cyborg Manifesto’.

Over Collective Feminist Reading Gathering

Are we cyborgs?

In the 1980s, Donna Haraway published ‘A Cyborg Manifesto’. In this iconic essay, the philosopher introduces a vision of feminism that challenges traditional notions of feminism and identity. She presents figure of the cyborg, who rejects rigid boundaries such as those between ‘man’ and ‘woman’ and ‘human and machine’.

In this collective reading session, we will slowly and collectively engage with Haraway’s text. How does she define the ‘cyborg’? And how do we understand this concept? Do we identify with it? Or not at all? How do we experience the enmeshment of humans and technology today?

About Collective Feminist Reading Gathering

We are not a book club. Sometimes reading and discussing a text can feel daunting so for this collective reading moment you don’t have to come prepared. We’ll come together around a long table with printed excerpts from selected texts spread out across its surface. You’ll pick a place to sit, read, and write. All that’s needed is a bit of willingness to dive into a text and to collectively explore thoughts.

Prior knowledge is not needed. This moment is meant for us to try to understand the texts together and create questions and thoughts. This reading moment is meant to be accessible and accommodating. The discussions will be in Dutch and English.

We ask for a small contribution for this event, in return you will get something to eat and drink.
